Great Salt Lake: a popular attraction for tourists, boaters and people who
study its unique ecosystem. Recreational opportunities include boating and kayaking. Temple
Square: the worldwide headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints features the historic temple and the Tabernacle. The Genealogy Library
(just west of Temple Square) is also a popular destination. Clark
Planetarium: exhibits and entertainment focusing on science and space. The
facility contains an IMAX theater and a dome theater with light shows. Hogle
Zoo: animals, exhibits and special events; located southeast of Salt Lake
City, near the University of Utah campus. This
is the Place Heritage Park: a pioneer village with many events that include
working craftspeople, baby animals, patriotic events and games for kids. Utah
Museum of Natural History: permanent exhibits feature Intermountain prehistory,
vertebrates, hundreds of minerals, dinosaur fossils and more. Red
Butte Garden and Arboretum: located at the University of Utah; offering concerts,
classes, workshops and kids camps. Red Butte Garden is a large ecological center
with natural gardens and walking paths. Wheeler
Historic Farm: a restoration of a turn-of-the-century dairy farm; offering
demonstrations, exhibits, wagon rides, farm chore opportunities, day camps and
more. Olympic
Parks Utah: Utah Olympic Park is located near Park City and offers camps,
training and corporate events. Public activities including bobsled rides, a zipline
and an alpine slide. Utah Olympic Oval is located in Kearns. Public activities
include curling, skating and hockey. Sweet
Candy Company Factory Tours: This wonderful candy factory offers free 40-minute
long tours. The tours are by appointment only, so schedule your visit in advance.
Watch workers and machines create salt water taffy, chocolates, jellies and cinnamon
bears. The candy factory tour ends with a stop in the outlet store, where you
may purchase fresh candy. Sweets also produces kosher candy, sugar-free candy
and chocolate sticks. Thanksgiving
Point: A family oriented destination with many different types of attractions,
exhibits and activities. Attractions include the large and impressive Museum of
Ancient LIfe, which hosts many dinosaur fossil exhibits, gardens, movie theaters,
an emporium, an animal park and more. Activities include golf, gourmet cooking
classes, science camps, gardening classes and pony rides. Thanksgiving Point also
has fairgrounds that are available for family reunions and for corporate events.
